COSTA CÁLIDA

7 Reasons to choose the Costa Calida

The Costa Calida is the tourist name used to describe the Murcia region. More than 250km of coast distributed around two seas, the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor, together with a mild climate even in winter and plenty of sun, explain the growing popularity of this region.

Here are the 7 main reasons that will help you understand why it is already a favourite area for many European citizens and becoming increasingly popular with the International market:

1. The Mar Menor

With a surface of 180 square kilometres, the Mar Menor is the largest salt lagoon in Europe. It is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a strip of land 22 kilometres long, called La Manga del Mar Menor. It is ideal for bathing due to its shallow depth and for practicing water sports.

2. The Weather

With an annual average of 19 degrees and more than 3000 hours of sunshine per year, the Costa Calida is one of the areas with the best climate in all of Europe.

3. The Gastronomy

Murcia is known for the quality of its food with excellent restaurants distributed throughout the region. Products from the Murcian garden – fresh fish, cheeses and wines are the main offer of a cuisine characterized by «spoon» dishes.

4. Natural Sites

Calblanque, Cabo de Palos, Sierra Espuña and La Azohía are some of the places that any lover of nature or hiking should visit. Murcia is a province with great landscape diversity, numerous natural parks, unspoiled beaches and coves and areas with clear waters and easily visible seabeds that are highly appreciated by divers.

5. Prices

The urban development of the Costa Calida started later than on other coasts. This makes it still possible to find houses near the sea at affordable prices. Prices can be 10-15% cheaper on average than in neighbouring Costa Blanca.

6. New Airport

The opening of the new Corvera International airport in January 2019 has been a dynamic factor for the entire region. There are more and more airlines with regular flights from Murcia to most European destinations. In addition, Alicante airport is only a short distance from the northern area of the Mar Menor.

7. Culture

The Costa Calida is a region with a long history. The city of Murcia in particular is very rich in buildings of great architectural value, such as the cathedral and the casino. In Cartagena we can enjoy an ancient historic city with a Roman theatre. Lorca and Caravaca de la Cruz are just two more favourite destinations for cultural tourism. In addition, Murcia hosts exhibitions, festivals and concerts the whole year through.
