Fuengirola is a town with a profound Andalusian flavour that comprises an extensive strip of coast brimming with magnificent beaches. The town has a population of around 80,000 inhabitants, making it the fifth most populous municipality in the province of Malaga, just behind the capital, Marbella, Velez-Malaga and Mijas.
Founded by the Phoenicians, Fuengirola was occupied by the Romans, Byzantines, Visigoths and Moors among other peoples, until its definitive incorporation into the Crown of Castile in 1485. Nowadays, Fuengirola’s economy is based on tourism with around 250,000 inhabitants during the summer months.
